Cosmetic Dermatology Procedures
The Dermatology Department is pleased to offer specially selected skin care programs. Medically supervised skin care programs offer advanced, scientifically proven ingredients and therapies. Our skin care programs can offer a non-surgical alternative to improve skin texture and tone. We can also work with your cosmetic surgeon to enhance and prolong the result of surgery. A skin care program will be customized for you that includes in-office treatments and home care products. Our staff will work with you to identify ways you can improve and maintain healthy skin.
Botox
Botox is used to treat facial wrinkles in the forehead, between the eyes, and in the upper third of the face or "crows feet" areas. Botox, or Botulinum toxin, works by weakening the muscles that are used to create facial expressions. Once the tone of the muscle is weakened, it relaxes and the overlying skin flattens. By physiologically weakening the muscles, wrinkles are lessened naturally. This approach is different from other local treatments for the aging face. Alternative options such as silicone, collagen, autologous fat transfer and alloderm all work by filling in wrinkles or depressions. These fillers are frequently not as effective as Botox in treating wrinkles in the upper third of the face.
There are no recognized permanent side effects of Botox. Complications may be discussed with the Dermatology Department staff.
Laser
Laser stands for Light Amplification by the Stimulated Emission of Radiation. Lasers produce a beam of highly concentrated light. Different types of lasers produce different colors of light which are absorbed by specific colors of pigments in the skin. For example, hemoglobin, found in blood, absorbs yellow-green light. The laser's energy scalds the vein shut and the blood vessel is absorbed by the body. We offer different lasers to treat facial veins, port wine strains, hemangiomas, age spots and tattoos.
